PHYSEDU 107
Reformer Pilates
Sheri Branson
Description from DukeHub
This course is designed for students with previous experience and knowledge of mat Pilates or classical dance and will focus on the foundational principles of the Pilates method as developed by Joseph Pilates, utilizing the universal reformer to improve core strength, flexibility, and body alignment. Participants will perform a structured sequence of controlled, low-impact movements designed to lengthen and tone muscles while emphasizing breath control and spinal stability. As the semester progresses, the level of difficulty will increase. Ideal for all fitness levels; the class emphasizes the 'powerhouse' (abdomen, lower back, and glutes) to create a balanced, resilient physique. Use of props will include Pilates rings and balls, dowels, and jump boards.
