Puerto Rican Literature, Music and the Arts
Richard Rosa
Description from DukeHub
In this course we will study the artistic and literary production of Puerto Rican artists and authors in relation to the expansion of the security, financial and hospitality industries and their impact on its population and its material environment. We will explore how Puerto Rican individual and collective literary and visual artworks respond to an exposure to juridical, political and environmental 'unprotection'. We will combine historical readings with art and literary media, and theoretical works that investigate the concepts of sovereignty, singularity, natality/mortality, vulnerability, brutalism, unprotectedness, as they have been developed in different intellectual traditions.
