Imagining Latin American Futures: Culture, Power, and Possibility
Miguel Rojas Sotelo
Description from DukeHub
This interdisciplinary seminar approaches Latin America and the Caribbean as sites of future-making. Drawing particularly on the humanities, students will examine how history, memory, language, literature, the arts, Indigenous thought, and other forms of cultural production shape the present and the futures people can imagine. These perspectives will be placed in conversation with contemporary questions of political power, migration, environmental change, science, technology, and global relations. Through humanistic interpretation, interdisciplinary research, and collaborative projects, students will explore which futures are possible and probable, who is imagining them, which futures are excluded, and which are worth creating.
