Epistemologies of the South
Felwine Sarr
Description from DukeHub
Starting from the premise of epistemic plurality, this course explores diverse intellectual traditions and knowledge systems originating in the Global South. It examines epistemologies developed in opposition to, alongside, or outside the hegemony of Western thought, with particular attention to postcolonial and decolonial theory, endogenous knowledge from the Global South, and Indigenous Knowledge of the 20th and 21st centuries. The seminar challenges students to recognize the plurality, equality, and incommensurability of different epistemic traditions and ways of knowing.
