FRENCH 318
Voyager et Décrire le Voyage
Sarah Quesada
Description from DukeHub
This course engages accounts of orientalism and exoticism in French paintings and travel narratives of the 19th century to the present. In the 20th century, we will also read some accounts by non-French travelers in French-speaking places and consider if their travels lead to solidarity or understanding with a socioeconomically disadvantaged country. And in the contemporary, some of the stories feature a female traveler attempting to belong, contesting the centrality of male travelogues in 19th and 20th century French literary culture.
