Forestry Capstone Project
Bin (Richard) Mei, Sari Palmroth
Description from DukeHub
The MF Capstone focuses on silviculture prescriptions and forest finance and management planning. The silviculture section centers on forest management planning built on field skills, modeling tools, and understanding of silvicultural principles. The forest finance section centers on the economic consequences of forest management plans under a multi-objective optimization framework with constraints. The two sections are integrated to inform landowners or land managers of the monetary tradeoffs of different forest management regimes. A mix of lectures, guest talks, labs, & fieldwork. Prerequisite: ENVIRON 680, 701, and 705L. Recommended prerequisite: ENVIRON 503. Fundamental knowledge in calculus, statistics and finance is expected.
