Anthropology of Religion: Ethnographic Perspectives on Lived Religion

Neena Mahadev

Description from DukeHub

Anthropology of Religion enables exploration of 'lived' religions through cultural anthropology's uniquely immersive methods of participant-observation and ethnographic writing. Through consideration of ethnographic scholarship on religions in a diverse set of world contexts, students will examine religious life, learn about distinctive religious traditions and about new religious movements. Course materials will cover aspects of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and African diasporic religions and indigenous religions.
