Asian American Christianity
Jonathan Tran
Description from DukeHub
This course critically engages Asian American Christianity as histories and experiences constructed in and addressing Asian America. More specifically, the class explores major Asian American contextual themes (racialization of Asian American identity; im/migration, citizenship, and empire; gender and sexuality; marginality/liminality and racial melancholy, etc.) through the lens of Asian American Christianity. The course follows a sequence where we (1) first consider Asian America through a series of paradigm instances; (2) theorize 'race' as applied to Asian Americans; (3) look at early instances of Asian American Christianity; and (4) encounter several contemporary instances of Asian American Christianity, especially the Asian American church.
Skills
No skill passed the confidence bar. Weak matches go to review instead of this page: an AI pass that has to quote the description, then a person.

The checks lean on Microsoft Research, Working with AI (2025), which found generative AI applies least to physical work and hands-on work with people. A signal, not a promise. How the score works
